The beach before nightfall is a common place: it predates the digital, worked over by art and by the family album alike. The work reconstructs those conventions and lets the limits of the system come through them. The generative image performs: it imitates the way a camera meets the world. I work at the point where that imitation holds and begins to strain.

This is not to say that intimacy is a simulation. Posing for a photograph was always already a form of staging. What interests me is the opposite: that these tools reconstruct the ordinary better and better. A minor scene, a gesture, an afternoon like any other.

I want to see whether an image no camera ever took can still hold closeness.
