Soft Body Screens
The first thing that caught my attention about 3D images was the impossibility of defining what I was seeing—not understanding if I was looking at a photograph of a sculpture or something that only existed in a digital environment. As a 3D artist, one of my main interests was how to extend this sensation. How to prolong this state of latency that confronts us with both the virtuality of the image and the sensual space it inaugurates.
Instead of prioritizing the speed or unidimensionality inherent in digital communication, I believe that in this space of indeterminacy, the viewer can shift from being a consumer to becoming a participant. I attempt to propose a kind of game around where meaning begins to be produced. Is it the act of framing? Is it from the theater within the frame, the digital puppets and the relationships they develop? When do context and content become read together?
In turn, this addresses larger unknowns regarding the current understanding of images and the relationship between our perception and media. This is a question about the interplay and how we relate to technology.
