In July 2023, my partner and I had the fortune of arriving in Albsyn, Sweden. In two afternoons visiting the Storforsen waterfalls, I gathered the material to create this series.

There was something hypnotic in photographing the multiplicity of forms that water takes and it’s almost instantaneous dissolution when it hits the rocks—something like a state of latency between the deafening roar and the calm of unperturbed flow.

The shapes reminded me of mountain landscapes, crystalline qualities, or cosmic and nebulous skies.

The unusual perspective of vertical landscapes in most of the images helps intensify this sensation, putting the figurative space of a portrait in tension with the representation of the landscape.
